Will I need to collect my luggage during the stopover?

Updated

During a stopover, you often need to collect and recheck your luggage due to Federal and Customs Regulations. This process involves retrieving your luggage to pass it through customs, ensuring no prohibited items enter the country. After clearing customs, you then recheck the luggage for the next part of your trip.

The luggage from flights with one stopover in any of these countries will need to be rechecked in after clearing customs:

  • USA

  • Mexico

  • Egypt

  • South Africa

Most of these airports provide a kiosk or check-in desk located near the luggage drop-off area to help speed up the process.

The minimum connection time is also determined to allow enough time to complete this procedure without delaying the boarding of the next flight.
